S-5!™ snow retention systems - snow and ice avalanching off of a roof - coming off all at once, can damage landscape, gutters, adjacent roofs, vehicles and even pose a threat to personal safety. ColorGard allows the snow and ice to slowly come off the roof in smaller pieces instead of all at once minimizing damage to objects below. ColorGard exactly matches the existing roof because it uses the same material as the roof itself. ColorGard utilizes a strip of the roofing material held in place by S-5! clamp to the seam technology.
Note: we only carry unpunched ColorGard rail which requires VersaClips to attach to the clamp. We do not stock or sell the pre-punched ColorGard.
The ColorGard system consists of the clamps, VersaClips, SnoClips and the ColorGard rail itself. The clamps are non-penetrating for standing seam metal roofs, there are several different clamps available for different seam styles. The "U" clamp fits most standard double-locked seams. It can be mounted sideways to fit on single-locked or "L" shaped seams, we refer to this as a "T" installation. The "T2" or "T2K" clamp fits "T" shaped seams and the "Z2K" fits zip-ribbed seams. Maximum spacing between clamps is 32" and in some cases multiple rows of ColorGard are required.
The S-5! "U" clamp fits the majority of standing seam roofs in the US. It comes with 2 stainless steel set screws and a bolt. The clamp is drilled on both sides for set screws, but only two should be used and they should both be on the same side of the clamp.
The VersaClip slides onto the back of the ColorGard rail and is bolted to the clamp. The bolt is supplied with the clamp. SnoClips clip onto the ColorGard rail between the clamps. They come in two sizes SnowClip 2 and SnoClip 3. SnoClip 2 is for seams that are 1 1/2" or less and SnoClip 3 is for seams that are over 1 1/2". SnoClips have a rubber foot that rests against the roof.
We generally leave the color insert up to the local roofing contractor. For best results, you should use the same material as the roof. The ColorGard rail takes a 2" strip of metal roof material and slides in just like a name tag.
